David Symons Memorial Diabetes Educator Internship

Devonport based, 0.6 FTE (Fixed term contract)

Diabetes Tasmania is pleased to offer the David Symons Memorial Diabetes Educator Internship. The Internship was established in 2015, and is in recognition of the contribution of a long-time supporter of the work of Diabetes Tasmania.

The internship is an initiative designed to provide a supported pathway from qualifying as a diabetes nurse educator (DNE) towards independent clinical practice as a credentialled diabetes educator (CDE).

The Internship will support a graduate year of practice for a registered nurse who has recently (in the last 5 years) completed an ADEA accredited post graduate certificate in diabetes and who is motivated to participate in the ADEA credentialling program.

  • Experience will be gained via rotation through the primary/community sector (Diabetes Tasmania) and tertiary sector (North West Regional Hospital Diabetes Centre) in north-west Tasmania.
  • 1000 hours of clinical placement over 12 months
  • Fixed term contract, from April 2020 to April 2021
